Sustainable Boardwalk Installation: East Woodhay for Hampshire County Council
Bison Bridges recently supplied Hampshire County Council with high-quality, sustainable materials for the construction of several hundred metres of boardwalk through the scenic landscape of East Woodhay. Designed to enhance access and encourage outdoor activity, the new boardwalk is already being enjoyed by walkers, nature lovers, and local residents alike.
The materials chosen for this project reflect a forward-thinking approach to both longevity and environmental responsibility. The structural elements in contact with the ground are made from Re-life recycled plastic – a durable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional timber. Unlike wood, which can rot when exposed to damp conditions, Re-life offers a rot-resistant solution that ensures the boardwalk’s stability and performance for years to come. Even better, this material is fully recyclable, offering a truly circular lifecycle.
The boardwalk deck itself is crafted from high-grade redwood timber, chosen for its strength and aesthetic appeal. To improve safety, especially during wet weather, anti-slip strips have been integrated into each board, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Hampshire County Council and their team of volunteers, the boardwalk has been expertly installed, providing a robust and attractive route through East Woodhay’s beautiful natural surroundings. This project not only improves accessibility but also encourages more people to explore the outdoors and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of nature.
At Bison Bridges, we’re proud to support sustainable infrastructure that makes a real difference in local communities.
