Pedestrian Bridge Installation at Chee Dale, Peak District National Park

Bison Bridges supplied and installed a high-quality steel pedestrian bridge at Chee Dale in the Peak District National Park, improving access through one of the UK’s most scenic and environmentally sensitive landscapes.

Located at What3Words: ///candles.adventure.mocking, the bridge forms part of a popular walking route through this limestone gorge, helping maintain safe and reliable access for the public while protecting the surrounding environment.

Steel Pedestrian Bridge Designed for Challenging Environments

The bridge has been engineered as a durable, long-span steel structure, designed to perform in a remote and high-footfall location.

Spliced steel beams were used to allow transport and installation within the constraints of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), reducing disruption to the landscape and avoiding the need for large-scale access works.

This approach ensured the bridge could be installed efficiently while meeting environmental and logistical requirements typical of national park and conservation sites.

Safe, Low-Maintenance Decking for Public Use

To provide safe access in all conditions, the bridge features a hardwood deck fitted with anti-slip strips. This delivers reliable grip underfoot, particularly important in wet or shaded environments such as Chee Dale, where surfaces can quickly become slippery.

The result is a practical, long-lasting solution that supports year-round use by walkers and outdoor visitors.

Pedestrian Bridges for National Parks and Rights of Way

Bison specialises in the design, supply and installation of steel pedestrian and bridleway bridges for national parks, nature reserves and public rights of way across the UK.

Each project is developed in collaboration with landowners and conservation bodies to ensure the structure meets both access requirements and environmental considerations.

Our bridges are designed to:

  • withstand long-term outdoor use with minimal maintenance
  • integrate into sensitive landscapes
  • provide safe, compliant access for the public
