Recycled Plastic Footbridge for Kirby Muxloe Parish Council

Kirby Muxloe Parish Council needed a safe, long-lasting replacement for the ageing timber footbridge beside the village hall. Bison designed, supplied and installed an 8-metre recycled plastic footbridge on a galvanised steel structure. The new bridge gives residents a crossing that needs very little maintenance.

The challenge: replacing a worn timber bridge

Kirby Muxloe is a Leicestershire village best known for its late 15th-century castle, which is cared for by Historic England. Closer to the village hall, residents relied on a timber beam footbridge that had reached the end of its useful life. Classic failed bridge problems included rotting beams, slippery and broken decking with ongoing repair costs. The council wanted a replacement that would last for decades without regular treatment or repairs.

The solution: a recycled plastic and steel pedestrian bridge
Bison recommended an 8-metre [Bison Bridge model, linked to the product page]. Its galvanised steel frame provides structural strength, and the recycled plastic deck and parapets won’t rot, splinter or need painting. [Add: anti-slip deck surface, load rating, accessibility/width, and the amount of plastic waste recycled if known.]

Installation

Our own team handled the full installation, from removing the old bridge and preparing the foundations to assembling the kit-bridge in situ. Including casting concrete abutments, the project was completed in 2 days.

The result: a bridge the village is proud of

The new footbridge has been warmly received by the parish council and local residents. The Chairman of the Parish Council asked that Bison be thanked for the high standard of the work:

“Dear Douglas

The Chairman of Kirby Muxloe Parish Council has requested that you be thanked for undertaking the bridge replacement to such a high standard. The bridge has been most welcomed by the residents of Kirby Muxloe, who are absolutely thrilled, as we all are, and have taken the time to express their thanks.

Thanks again”

Rachel – Clerk, Kirby Muxloe Parish Council

Why parish councils choose recycled plastic footbridges

Parish and town councils have to manage tight budgets, so it helps if public rights of way infrastructure doesn’t create ongoing costs. Recycled plastic bridges don’t need the regular treatment that timber does and they won’t rot. They also reuse plastic waste that would otherwise go to landfill.
